Smart Communications, a Philippine mobile phone company, uses Bergey wind turbines and solar energy to power for remote Base Transceiver Stations (BTS), which are spread throughout the islands. Usually, such facilities would be powered by diesel aggregates, but this is naturally a more environment friendly solution. The wind power systems save 70-95% of diesel fuel used in the conventional generators.

Bergey Windpower is a worldwide supplier of wind turbines for remote BTS power supply. The company is an active participant of the GSMA Green Power for Mobile initiative.
