Aquamarine Power has decided to cease development activities of Neptune, their tidal stream device. Instead, they will focus all their development and commercialization efforts on the Oyster Wave Energy Converter. Design and intellectual property, created as part of the Neptune project, will in fact continue to be a part of their product portfolio, but the project itself will not see any further development.

Aquamarine Power has recently made an agreement with Scottish and Southern Energy for renewable energy development, one that should produce sites with a total capacity of about 1000 MW, by the year 2020. This kind of long term commitment justifies Aquamarine's move to concentrate on further development of Oyster converters.

Aquamarine Power claims Oyster has the potential to be "the best maring energy device" on the market. Indeed, it's simplicity easy maintenance, and the fact that it can operate efficiently in almost all sea conditions makes it quite a competitive marine power solution.
