Danish Energy Agency announced the publication of the tender for the Anholt Offshore Wind Farm, in Kattegat (west of island Anholt). This wind farm project is to be the largest ever in Denmark, and will have a total installed capacity of 400 MW. The wind farm is expected to be connected to the power grid in 2012. Companies interested in getting the rights to develop the project are invited to participate in the tender. It is not clear whether the whole 400 MW will be awarded in a single package, or broken up into smaller parts, with the bidding process repeated for each part (as is usually the case in larger projects).

Once finished, the Anholt Wind Farm will delivery clean electricity that will be enough to power about 400,000 households. According to the Agency, the world's hasn't seen an offshore wind farm this large so far. Preliminary geophysical and geotechnical surveys of the seabed are being done by Energinet.dk, in order to minimize the risk for the bidders. Energinet is also responsible for financing and construction of the substation at sea and connecting the wind farm the power grid on land. The deadline for the tender is April 7, 2010.
