Scottish and Southern Energy announced the start of construction work on the Clyde wind farm. The investment, in excess of GBP 200 million, will be placed with Scottish companies. The project includes Siemens, as the preferred wind turbine supplier for the project, with an order of about GBP 10 million for the manufacture and assembly of wind turbine towers at the Welcon Towers facility at Machrihanish, Argyll. The new order will help secure about 100 jobs at the manufacture yard, and help position the facility for more order coming from offshore wind farm developers.
The Clyde wind farm will consists of 152 wind turbines, which will output enough electricity to power about 200,000 homes annually. The wind farm will create some 200 jobs during the construction phase, and more than 30 permanent jobs after completion.
