scotland-flagThe Scottish government's "world-leading" legislation regarding tackling of climate change, has been passed by their parliament. The new bill sets a formidable target of 80% cut in carbon emissions by 2050, which includes emissions from internal aviation and shipping. An interim target cut has been set as well to a 42% cut in emissions by 2020.

This is the most ambitious and agressive climate change bill passed so far. The country, which is aiming to become the leader in renewable energy in Europe (and the world), has been taking big steps in that direction in the recent months, with many renewable energy projects involving wind and marine energy.

Scottish government recognizes reaching the proposed targets will not be an easy task, but sees great opportunity for the country's economy to benefit from such a challenge. Governor of US state California, Arnold Schwarzenegger, gave his praise of the new bill passed in Scotland, stating the country should be an example of how other countries in the world should "step up to the plate".
