Energie Steiermark AG, an Austrian hydro developer, has ordered equipment from Andritz Hydro for two new hydropower projects – the Gössendorf and Kalsdorf hydropower plants, just to the south of the city of Graz.

The two plants will receive a single bulb-turbine each, measuring 3.6 meters in diameter, but also speed governors, generators, and exciter systems. The order estimate is in the neighborhood of EUR 28 million. Each hydroturbine will have 20 MW capacity, and both will be jointly built by Energie Steiermark and Verbund. The generated electricity, once the plants are operational, will be enough to power about 45,000 average Austrian households. The plants are expected to be completed in 2012 and 2013.

The total investment volume is about EUR 153 million, but more importantly for the country's economy, about two thirds of the total amount are investments with domestic companies.
