Western provinces (dark orange) are rich with solar energy potential.

Suntech Power has entered into a strategic agreement with China Huadian New Energy Development (HNE) to jointly develop 500 MW of solar energy projects. The projects will include utility-scale and commercial rooftop solar power in China, in the western provinces rich with sunlight, the Jiangsu province and Shanghai over the period of the next three years.

HNE will be responsible for project investment and development while Suntech will supply crystalling silicon solar modules, as well system design and technical support. Separate agreements will be signed on a per project basis, for the projects related to the larger strategic agreement.

Some of the projects to be developed as a result of the new strategic partnership may include projects previously announced by Suntech, like those in the Qinghai province, the Shaanxi province, Shizuishan city, Ningxia province, Panzhinua city, Sichuan province and the Jiangsu province.
