The company will proceed with the closure of the production facility, justifying its decision by unfavorable conditions in the UK, and an increased demand in the US, which resulted in almost all the produced blades going to the US market, instead of going to the UK market. Vestas decided to move production from the Isle of Wight, to the company's production facility in Colorado, US.

Additionally, the company decided to fire several employees who have continued the sit in at the production facility on the Isle of Wight, stating the move was the result of several failed communications with the protesters.

The company plans to expand its ongoing research efforts and facilities in the UK, on the Isle of Wight, by investing in a new blade technology center. The new center will be capable of designing and manufacturing prototypes and the testing the world's largest wind turbine blades. Scheduled to open in 2011, the center will employ about 150 peopls, an increase from the currently employed 110 people.

Even though it's pulling its production facility out, the company states it will return if the UK wind market develops into a stong and stable market. The UK has favorable wind conditions making it attractive for wind energy development, but administrative, social and ecological issues have seriously slowed down wind energy development, and for good reasons in many cases. In many ways the UK wind market crisis is an interesting situation to follow, especially for nations who have not yet developed their own renewable energy strategy. A lot can be learned from the UK's situation, and mistakes avoided in the future in other regions.
