Canada based Reservoir Capital Corporation has submitted an application to the Serbian Ministry of Mining and Energy for a hydropower project in southwest Serbia, near the city of Uzice, on the Djetinja River.

The project involves the adaptation of the existing Vrutci dam on the Djetinja River, originally built for flood protection and fresh water storage in the early 1980's, to include a hydropower facility for generating electricity. The project has been applied for and will be executed by REV d.o.o., Reservoir Capital's subsidiary in Serbia.

The proposed Vrutci Hydropower Project will have a total of 32 MW of installed capacity, with an estimated production of about 45 GWh annually. The project and REV have received support from local leaders in the industry as well as from the government.

There was no mention of an environmental impact study, but since the dam is already there, the added power generation facility shouldn't present too much of an ecological threat, if executed properly.
