Voith Hydro scored a contract to provide a turbine and generator for a new hydropower plant on the Rio Sil, a tributary of the Rio Mino River in Spain.
The $34.1 million deal will see Voith providing the Spanish utility Iberdrola a Francis Turbine, a vertical generator and a 32 meter long steel liner for San Esteban II, a 177-MW facility. The new unit is expected to begin commercial production by the end of 2012.
For the record, in March 2009, Voith received a contract to upgrade turbines for Spanish utility Union Fenosa S.A.
Under that agreement, Voith will supply equipment for vertical Kaplan turbine upgrades in three powerhouses of the Rio Mino complex on the Mino River in Spain.
