Ecuador is going to launch tenders for a 246 MW hydropower project on the Toachi and Pilatón rivers, in Ecuador's province of Pichincha. The date of launch of the tenders has not been announced yet, but according to Industrial Info, they will happen sometime between October and November this year.
The project will feature two power houses, two penstocks (4.5 and 10 km long), and a 60-meter dam. The smaller power house will output 48 MW, while the second one will output 198 MW. Both will use Francis turbines. Construction is planned to begin in February 2010, and is expected to take about 4 years.
The concession for the Toachi-Pilatón Project was initially given to Hidrotoapi SA in 2005, originally planned to output 190 MW. It has since been changed to have more installed power capacity.
