E.ON has announced the completion of the Panther Creek wind farm, located near Big Springs, Texas. This huge wind farm has a total of 458 MW of installed capacity, and features 305 wind turbines. Panther Creek wind farm is now among the ten largest wind farms in the US.
The project has been done in phases. Phases 1 and 2 became operational in Q1 2009, while the third and fourth (final) phase of the wind farm were only just completed.
E.ON already has about 1.4 GW of installed wind power capacity across North America. The company continues to expand its renewable energy portfolio in the US. One of the more significant projects is the world's largest to be wind farm at Roscoe, Texas, with 780 MW of planned capacity.
E.ON plans to invest about USD 8 billion in renewable energies and climate protection activities around the world from 2007 to 2011. The company's portfolio includes wind, biomass, biogas and solar PV installations. By 2010, the company is planning to have around 4 GW of installed renewable energy capacity.
