ExxonMobil announced its Mobilgear SHC XMP 320 lubricant has been approved for second-fill applications by Winergy, the company thay supplies gearboxes used in GE 1.5 MW wind turbines.

Mobilgear is currently used in mor than 25,000 wind turbines around the world. It's a high performance synthetic gearbox oil which delivers good oxidational resistence (important for offshore applications for example), high viscosity index and low temperature fluidity, which all help extend lubricant life and equipment reliability. In addition to this, the SHC XMP 320 contains additives which provide protection against wear modes like scuffing and micropitting. This means less downtime for wind turbines, allowing them to produce more power, but also lowering maintenance costs.

Winergy, a manufacturer of wind turbine gear units, has given its approval for Mogilgear to be used for second-fill applications, after more than 30 rigorous industry tests which replicate the kind of stress a wind turbine would endure in real conditions. In addition to Winergy gearboxes, the lubricant has also won approval to be used for second-fill applications in Bosch-Rexroth and Moventas gearboxes, also used in GE 1.5 MW wind units.
