Sempra Generation announced it has invested in the second phase of Fowler Ridge II, becoming an equal partner with BP Wind Energy. The Fowler Ridge II wind farm will have 200 MW of installed capacity once completed, and is located in Benton County, Indiana (US). The wind will use 133 1.5 MW wind turbines.
The entire power output of the wind farm has been sold in advance in four 50 MW long-term contracts. Three contracts were signed with American Electric Power, while the fourth has been signed with Vectren Energy Delivery, for terms of 20 years each.
Fowler Ridge II is an expansion of the existing Fowler Ridge I wind farm (400 MW), which begun operations in March 2009. Combined, the two projects will generated about 600 MW, supplying about 180,000 average homes in the region with clean electricity.
Apart from wind energy, Sempra Generation is involved in solar energy and natural gas power plant development.
