Last Tuesday, the largest wind turbines manufacturer in India, Suzlon, announced it has won a repeat order for 57 MW of wind turbines with Ayen Energi from Turkey. The order consists of 27 S88 2.1 MW units which are to be installed in Seferihisar and Mordogan projects in east Turkey.
Ayen Enerji is Turkey's major utility with focus on production, and sale of electricity. The company currently has hydropower and gas power plants in its portfolio, and is now adding wind power as well.
Turkey is planning to expand its renewable energy facilities. Wind energy in particular has strong support in the country. Turkey's goal is to achieve "12% renewables by 2010", which means the country will have to have about 12 GW of wind power capacity installed by 2010.
