iberdrola-wind-turbineIberdrola Renovables announced it has started construction of two new wind farms in Hungary, totalling in 74 MW of wind power capacity.

One of the wind farms is the 36 MW Scott wind farm, while the other is the 38 MW Csoma I wind farm. Both are located in the Komárom-Esztergom Megye district near the city of Komárom. The wind turbines of choice for this project will be the G90 2 MW units supplied by Gamesa.

Once completed, the two new wind farms will raise Iberdrola's operated capacity in Hungary to 124 MW. The company already operates the Kisigmand site, in the same area as the two new wind farms. This is a 50 MW wind farm, which also happens to be the largest in Hungary.

The expansion of wind power installations in Easter Europe is part of the company's strategy to spread its presence throughout this region. Iberdrola is already present in Poland (160.5 MW), while it is in the process of developing a wind farm in Estonia, to be the largest in that country with 150 MW of installed capacity. Along with this, Iberdrola has opened an office Bucharest, Romania, and is involved in wind energy developments in Bulgaria.
