helixwind-D15000_prodHelix Wind will begin a technology demonstration by testing two small wind turbines that will power cell towers in Southern California. Installation will occur in early 2010, with the test running for three months. Additionally, the company will explore whether it is feasible to sell excess generated power back to the power grid undar a power purchase agreement.

Helix Wind is working on this project in association with Core Communications Group, on behalf of its tower company called Vertical Green. This will be one of the first grid-connected cell tower sites in Southern California that are powered by renewable energy.

Helix Wind pointed out there are about 3500 cell towers in Southern California, with an additional 1000-1200 new towers anticipated in the next five years, due to the expansion of broadband wireless. This represents a great opportunity for the company to explore another revenue channel.
