Nevada Geotherma Power (NGP) announced it has been awarded USD 57.9 million by the US Department of Treasury for its Blue Mountain Faulkner 1 geothermal power project.

The Faulkner 1 was commissioned in early October, and is steadily producing 27 MW of clean electricity. Even though full production capacity is 40 MW, this amount of power won't be available until three additional wells are drilled. With this grant from the Treasury Department, the company plans to finance these drillings, and pipeline connections.

According to tests, the power plant's conversion system is about 20% more efficient than the base design, which is a result of both higher brine inlet temperature to the plant and a more efficient power conversion. NGP expects to be able to extend the power plant's capacity to 47 MW with additional working fluid production.
