Under a long-term wind turbine blade supply agreement between LM Glasfiber and REpower Systems, LM Glasfiber is to supply 954 MW worth of blades for up to 477 wind turbines for five wind energy projects in Canada. The projects are part of a wind energy development collaboration plan between EDF and REpower in Quebec, Canada. The blades are to be manufactured at LM Glasfiber's existing facility in Gaspé, Canada, starting in 2011.
LM Glasfiber has had a long-time collaboration with REpower, so this deal represents a further strengthening of the relationship between the two companies. LM Glasfiber also recognizes the strategic significance of the agreement which will help the company expand its supply chain in the North American wind energy market.
After entering the North American wind market more than ten years ago with its first facility in North Dakota, the Gaspé facility is LM Glasfiber's second manufacturing operation in North America, opened in 2006. Since then, the company has doubled production with the opening of the third production facility in Arkansas, USA.
