Alltech open treatment plant in Senta, Serbia

Alltech logoAlltech announced the opening of a state-of-the-art effluent treatment plant for its yeast facility in Senta, Serbia. The plant will incorporate a cogeneration unit which will produce heat and power for the facility, making it the first of its kind in the region.

The treatment facility is a combination of both anaerobic and aerobic treatment plants, converting the biological waste into biogas which can then be used to generate electricity and contribute to the facilities gas and power requirements. This will result in the provision of 37% of its present requirements for natural gas and contribute to 34% of its electrical needs. In addition, the hot water generated from the cogeneration plant will be utilized to heat various processes in the facility and to heat the anaerobic reactor, which is maintained at 37OC.

The plant, which was originally opened in 1981, has the capacity to produce over 8,000 tones of yeast a year, employing over 240 staff in the region…
