The first round of the wind power auction sale in Brazil was completed recently, resulting in 1805.7 MW of wind power generating capacity to be constructed in the country. This represents a total of 71 wind energy projects to be developed in the country, in the five states in the Northeast and South of Brazil. The total transacted amount will be about USD 19.6 billion at the end of the duration of the contracts, after 20 years.
The Brazilian government has taken this initiative as part of a nationwide effort to introduce as much renewable energy capacity in the country's power generating portfolio as possible. The following table shows the states and planned capacity:
