alstom-wind-tubineAlstom announced the company has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Government of Bahia, a state in Brazil, which states the company will open a wind turbine assembly facility there. The new facility, based in Bahia, will be able to output 300 MW of wind turbines annually. The facility represents an investment of about EUR 20 million. Operation of the new facility is planned to start in early 2011.

With this MoU, Alstom is entering the Brazilian wind energy market, which is set to expand significantly in the next years. Just recently, Brazil completed round one of the wind capacity auction for a total of 1.8 GW of capacity. More expansions involving wind energy in the country are planned over the coming years.
