Van Oord has made a successful installation of the first wind turbine at the Belwind offshore wind farm, off the coast of Belgium. Recently, Van Oord has completed installations of tower foundations, so this development marks the beginning of the final stages of development for the Belwind wind farm.

Belwind will be featuring Vestas V90 units, with 55 of these getting installed as part of Phase 1 of the project. Each unit is capable of outputting 3 MW at peak generation periods. If everything goes according to plan, all 55 units should be installed and ready for commissioning by September 2010.

Belwind wind farm project is owned by Belwind NV, while Van Oord is responsible for engineering, procurement and construction of the wind farm.
