TransAlta is planning to design, build and operate a wind farm near Ardenville in Alberta, Canada. The Ardenville wind farm will be located about 8 km south from Fort Macleod, and is estimated to be an investment of about USD 135 million. Construction is planned to begin soon, while completion of the wind farm is scheduled in early 2011.
Ardenville wind farm will have 69 MW of installed capacity, featuring 23 3 MW wind turbines. Some 40% of the wind farm's power output will be sold through long-term power purchase agreements. The choice of wind turbine manufacturer has not been made as of yet, but judging from the company's choice so far, the units will most likely be Vestas 3 MW wind turbines.
Ardenville wind turbine is not going to be alone in the area, as it's going to be in the neighborhood of another wind farm, the Macleod Flats wind farm.
