
Siemens announced the company has entered into a partnership with two Russian energy companies – Rosstechnologii and RusHydro. The three partner companies will set up a joint venture for developing wind energy capacity in Russia, with Siemens being the majority stake holder in the company.
As a direct result of the partnership, Siemens is hoping to set up manufacturing facilities in Russia for supplying the country's wind energy market, but also to manage sales and services of Siemens wind turbines in Russia and other parts of the world. Siemens is continuing its manufacture regionalization strategy involving the most important markets for the company. Apart from Russia, Siemens is currently building manufacturing operations in USA, China, India, and Great Britain.
This and other engagements for Siemens in the Russian market, comes after the recent visit by the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel to Russia. Siemens is to supply wind energy technology and railway technology to Russia. As far as wind energy installations are concerned, Siemens has signed M0Us for about 1250 MW of wind energy capacity, to be delivered and installed in Russia by 2015.
Russia has plans to install about 5 GW of wind energy capacity by 2020, at a growth rate of about 250-500 MW annually.
