Marine Current Turbines has secured GBP 250,000 of funding from the Technology Strategy Board (TSB), as part of TSB's GBP 7 million wave and tidal energy competition fund. Marine Current Turbines is one of nine developers which will be able to continue with the development of their technology for harnessing the energy of the sea.

The company will use the awarded funding to continue with the development of SeaGen tidal system, building a fully submersible buy easy to surface SeaGen tidal turbine, which can be deployed in deep water sites which offer good tidal current and wave conditions.

Marine Current Turbines' SeaGen tidal system has already been deployed in 2008, and is generating electricity ever since. The new turbine will be an enhancement of this technology. One of the key improvements is the ability to service the device above the sea surface.
