
Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) announced a USD 700 million deal for building 175 MW of solar power plants in the United States of America. The deal was signed with Matinee Energy. Two power plants will be developed and built, one in Dragoon having 150 MW of capacity, and the other in Cochise having 25 MW of installed capacity.
HHI will supply the entires system of services ranging from design and manufacturing to installation and test-runs. Solar modules to be used at the new plants will be manufactured at the company's production facility in South Korea.
Matinee Energy has plans for 900 MW of solar power capacity in California and Arizona. HHI was chosen among competitors coming from Europe and Asia.
This deal represents an important step for HHI towards the company getting recognition in the solar energy market as an integrated solar energy system provider, capable of building large scale solar projects.
