Sanko officially inaugurated the Cevizlik hydropower plant in Turkey, with 100 MW of installed power generating capacity. The power plant uses two Fransic hydroturbines to power the electrical generators. The turbines and generators were supplied and installed by Alstom.

Final tests have shown that the power plant generates 10% more power than agreed in the contract. The power output from the plant is enough to supply about 200,000 average households in Turkey, and has significantly increased the total amount of renewable energy capacity in operation in the country. Currently, Turkey imports fuel to cover about 60% of its power generation needs. At the moment, the country's hydro energy sector has about 15 GW of installed and operational capacity.

Alstom is no stranger to hydropower projects in Turkey. The company has about 2.5 GW of hydropower capacity in operation, and another 2 GW of new capacity lined up for development.
