AMSC has received the initial order for 17 wind turbine electrical control systems from Indian wind turbine manufacturer Inox Wind. The units are 2 MW class wind turbines, doubly-fed induction turbines, using AMSC's Windtec technology, under a licensing contract signed in May this year. Inox has been granted the right to manufacture and sell wind turbines on the global wind energy market. The company has begun large volume production, having recently constructed and commissioned its first wind turbine.
India had about 11 GW of wind energy capacity installed at the end of 2009 (Emerging Energy Research report), and is a steadily growing market, due to the rise in consumer demand for electricity. It is the fifth largest wind energy market in the world. It is expected India's installed wind capacity will reach an impressive 34 GW by 2020.
Inox Wind is a growing player in the Indian wind energy market. The company is expected to pursue an aggressive growth strategy, and become a major player in the global wind energy market.
