Fortum buys 40% stake in 250 MW wind farm in northern Sweden

Fortum has become a partner of Skellefteå Kraft on the Blaiken wind farm project, in northern Sweden. The two companies will form a JV called Blaiken Vind AB. The project is to have 100 wind turbines installed, totalling in 250 MW of installed capacity.

Blaiken wind farm will be one of the biggest onshore wind projects. once completed it will generate enough clean electricity to supply about 150,000 average households. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2011, while completion is expected sometime during 2015. Total costs of the project are expected to peak at about EUR 400 million, to be split between the two companies according to ownership stake.
