SWAY, the Norwegian wind energy developer and turbine manufacturer, has created a new business unit called Sway Turbine. The new company will deal primarily with the development of a the prototype for a new 10 MW offshore wind turbine, which will also make use of the company's concept of a floating foundation.

The CEO of SWAY Turbine will be Eystein Borgen, the founder of SWAY, to be replaced by Michael Forland, as the new CEO of SWAY.

SWAY Turbine is at the moment working on building a full sized 10 MW wind turbine prototype to be tested in Øygarden. The funding for the new turbine came from ENOVA, a Norwegian state owned fund, and brought EUR 17 million to SWAY for the project.

SWAY will focus on the floating wind turbine foundation concept from now on, and leave wind turbine development to SWAY Turbine.
