South West RDA announced the successful installation of the Wave Hub. The agency announced it's ready to deploy offshore subsea cables for the hub earlier this year. The 12 ton hub has been lowered to the bottom of the sea, at 55 meters of depth, some 16 km offshore. The cable connecting the hub to the onshore substation is about 25 km long and is being covered with layers of rock which will hold the cable in place at all times.
The Wave Hub project is a GBP 42 million endeavor, and its goal is to provide the base for a world class marine energy industry testing facility, located in South West England. For the next 25 years, the wave hub will provide an invaluable knowledge base for marine energy developers worldwide.
