Sempra Generation announced the completion of what the company touts to be the largest PV solar facility in the US, the Copper Mountain solar park, near Boulder, Nevada. The solar park has 48 MW of installed capacity. Sempra Energy got the approval for the Copper Mountain project from California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) back in December 2009.

Copper Mountain solar power plant is located next to the existing 10 MW El Dorado solar power plant, so the area now has the capability to generate 58 MW of clean electricity (at peak performance). Combined, the two facilities do actually make possibly the largest US PV solar facility, featuring nearly a million PV panels. The project was completed in less than a year. All power generated at the facilities is being sold to Pacific Gas & Electric under a 20-year PPA.
