RWE npower renewables announced the company has awarded the Gwynt y Môr offshore wind farm foundation contract to a specialist consortium of Bladt Industries A/S and EEW Special Pipe Construction Gmbh. This consoritum was chosen for the vast experience it has accumulated in foundation building for offshore wind farms.

The first foundations for the wind turbines at Gwynt y Môr are scheduled for delivery in late 2011. Installation of all the foundations is to be completed by late 2013.

Gwynt y Môr offshore wind farm is located about 13 km of the northern coast of Wales. Wind turbines will be installed in water depths from 12 to 28 meters. Once completed, the wind farm will have a total of 576 MW of installed capacity, capable of generating enough clean electricity to supply about 400,000 average homes annually. The project represents an investment of about EUR 2 billion.
