Parabel, a German solar developer, announced the company will build one of the largest solar parks in Europe. The future solar power facility will be located on old military training grounds near Jännersdorf, in the state of Brandenburg, and will have 41 MW of installed capacity upon completion of the first phase of the project. The final phase of the project will result in the solar park having a total of 90 MW of installed solar power generating capacity, making it one of the largest such facilities in Europe (and it will located at a single location). The initial 41 MW of capacity is expected to become operational in late summer 2011.

The state of Brandenburg has an energy strategy which calls for 20% of the primary power usage to come from renewable energy sources by 2020. The Marienfliess municipality, responsible for land use in the area where the solar park is to be built, should conclude the approval process for the project in May 2011. Construction at the solar park site is expected to start in June this year.
