GE's offshore 4.1 MW wind turbine has had its first trial run in Gothenburg Harbor, Sweden. The trial, which lasted 200 hours, resulted in 99.05% availability, with wind speeds varying from zero to rated wind speeds. The capacity factor achieved was 35.3 percent.
According to GE Energy, the variable wind speeds during the test inspire confidence the offshore wind turbine can perform well in variable wind conditions. The development team will now be engaged in the validation of the design, and obtaining the initial results before the summer. The goal is to compare the power curve and loads against the measured results and validate these two characteristics.
