Siemens has received an order for a total of 115 MW of wind turbines for the El Arrayan wind project in Chile. The project is being developed by Pattern Energy and AEI as a joint venture.
This is the first wind power order for Siemens in Chile, marking the formal entry of the German wind turbines manufacturer into this growing wind energy market. A total of 50 SWT-2.3-101 units will be delivered and installed at the project site. Siemens will be providing service and maintenance for the turbines over a five year period. Installation is to begin in early 2013, while completion is expected in early 2014. All power generated at the wind farm will be purchased by Minera Los Pelambres through a power purchase agreement. Furthermore, the company's parent company has purchased an equity stake in the project as well.
