Suzlon has launched a new wind turbine aimed at the low-wind market. The S111 has 2.1 MW of capacity, but sports a 111 meter diameter, with a swept area of 9500 square meters, which accounts for the increase in output of 29% compared to the standard 2.1 MW models in the company's fleet, including S88, S95 and S97.
As the wind energy industry turns more towards low-wind energy sites, the company felt it was necessary to offer a new wind turbine aimed at this particular market segment. The idea was to offer wind farm developers a turbine with an increased power generation capacity at the lowest possible cost per kWh of produced electrical energy. Suzlon will offer a ten year, all inclusive service and warranty program alongside the new wind turbine. S111 should enter commercial production in 2014, according to the company.
