The UK Department of Energy and Climate Changes has given approval for two offshore wind farm projects of the coast of Norfolk. The combined capacity of the two projects is more than 1 GW.
The two new wind farms, Race Bank (580 MW; Centrica) and Dudgeon (560 MW; Warwick Energy) in the Greater Wash, will eventually supply about 730,000 average homes with clean electrical energy. The investment necessary for the completion of both projects matches their potential, reaching around GBP 3 billion.
A third project, at Docking Shoal, also in the same general area, has been refused, due to the potential negative impact the project could have on the seabird population in this area.
