Northland Power building 24 MW wind farm in Quebec

Northland Power Income Fund announced the company is building a 24 MW wind farm near the south shore of the St Lawrence, in Quebec. The company has been awarded a 20-year PPA, under which all generated power at the wind farm will be sold to Hydro-Québec.

EDP Renovaveis secures PPA for 175 MW in the US

EDP Renovaveis announced the company's subsidiary, Horizon Wind, has secured a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Ameren Illnois Utilities and Commonwealth Edison Company for a total of 175 MW of power generated at wind farms in Illinois and Indiana.

Vestas supplying 28 V100's to Element Power

Vestas announced an order for 28 V100-1.8 MW units from Element Power, for a wind farm being developed in Luna County in New Mexico, USA. The 50.4 MW of capacity will be the first phase of the 99 MW Macho Springs Wind Energy Project. Vestas is to deliver the units, and provide service and maintenance for 10 years. The wind turbines are to be commissioned in mid-2011.

MPI Adventure offshore wind installation vessel gets some muscle

MPI announced its vessel MPI Adventure, which is being built in China for the special purpose of installing offshore wind turbines, has been fitted with a crane capable of lifting and carrying 1000 tons of weight. The 400 ton crane was constructed in China, and then transported to Cosco Nantong Shipyard by barge, where the crane was positioned on the main deck of the installation vessel.

Gamesa 60 wind turbines to Western Wind Energy

Gamesa announced an agreement with Western Wind Energy under which the company is to supply Western Wind with 60 G8X-2.0 MW wind turbines for a 120 MW wind farm to be built at the Tehachapi Pass in southern California. This project will also be the largest ever developed by Western Wind Energy in the United States.

US DoI approves 110 MW solar power project in Nevada

US Department of Interior approved the ninth large-scale solar power generating facility. The 110 MW Crescent Dunes Solar Energy Project has been given the go ahead to be built on public lands in Nevada. Once completed, the power plant will be able to generate clean electricity for about 75,000 average households.

Abengoa Solar and ITOCHU Corp in partnership for two 50 MW CSP plants in Spain

Abengoa Solar and ITOCHU Corporation (Japan) have entered into a partnership to jointly own two 50 MW CSP plants in Spain in Logrosán (Cáceres), Extremadura. Abengoa will operate both facilities, and own 70% of the projects, while ITOCHU Will own the remaining 30 percent. The two power plants represent an investment of EUR 500 million, of which 340 million has been secured through a project finance loan.

Arizona Public Service and SunEdison building 10 MW solar park in Prescott

Arizona Public Service (APS) and SunEdison announced the companies will build a 10 MW utility-scale solar PV power plant near Prescott Regional Airport, Arizona (USA). SunEdison will own and operate the new plant, with all the generated power being sold to APS. The utility estimates the 10 MW of installed capacity will be enough to supply about 2500 average households with clean electricity annually.

France planning 5.3 GW of new hydropower capacity – Fortum bidding for concessions

France is going to issue a tender for new hydropower concessions in 2011. This country has a 25 GW hydropower installed capacity base, and this tender should result in ten more concessions, or another 5.3 GW of installed hydropower capacity.

EIB financing wind farm in Romania with EUR 200 loan

The European Investment Bank (EIB) has announced it will provide a EUR 200 loan for a wind farm project to be developed in eastern Romania, near the village of Fantanele. The wind farm is to have 347.5 MW of installed capacity, featuring 139 2.5 MW wind turbines. The project is to be built by CEZ a.s., a Czech energy holding company, involved in various energy developments in Eastern Europe.
