Suntech Power acquiring 375 MW of wafer manufacturing capacity

Suntech Power announced the company is in the process of acquiring 375 MW of wafer manufacturing capacity from a subsidiary of Glory Silicon Technology Investments (Hong Kong). Suntech will acquire the remaining 70% of shares in the operation for about USD 127 million (after USD 80 offset already owed to Suntech).

Foster Wheeler to supply steam generator system for 100 MW solar thermal plant in UAE

Foster Wheeler (Switzerland) announced the company is to supply a steam generator system for a solar thermal power plant project in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), which is to have 100 MWe. Foster Wheeler is to supply the whole chain of equpiment for the project, ranging from preheaters, evaporators, superheaters, and also interconnection piping, valves, steel structures, and site advisory.

Gurit to supply PET core materials to Chinese customer

Gurit signed a supply contract with an undisclosed Chinese customer for PET core materials. The amount involved in the deal is in the mid-single digit millions of Swiss Francs. Beginning from 2011, the company is to start delivering the core material, produced in China at the company's manufacturing facility currently being equipped with a PET extruder. The deal is for two years of core material supplies.

Vestas to supply turbines for 56 MW wind farm in India

Vestas has received an order to supply 34 V82-1.65 MW units for the 56 MW Tuppadahali wind farm, in the state of Karnataka, India. The Tuppadahali wind farm is being built by Acciona Energia.

Astronergy begins construction on 200 MW thin-film production line in Jiuquan City

Astronergy announced the beginning of construction work at the 200 MW thin-film production line in Jiuguan City, in the Gansu Province. The new solar module production facility will produce Astronergy's high-efficiency modules. The facility represents and investment of about USD 435 million (EUR 320 million).

China launches first phase of Jiuquan wind farm complex

What's regarded as the largest wind power project in the world, the Jiuquan wind power complex in the Gansu Province, has passed a significant milestone. The first phase of the project has been completed, with the successful installation of 3500 wind turbines, totalling in 5.16 GW of capacity. Currently, this phase of the project is generating about 1.15 GW of power.

Suntech chosen as supplier for solar power plant in Thailand

Suntech Power has been awarded the contract to supply 9.43 MW of solar panels and technical support for phase two of the 44 MW solar power plant being built in Thailand. The project is owned by Bangchak Petroleum Public Company, while integration is being done by Solartron Public Company. Once completed, the 44 MW solar power plant will be one of the largest in Thailand, and in Southeast Asia.

OPT and Mitsui bringin Power Buoy to Japanese waters

Ocean Power Technologies (OPT) and Mitsui (Japan) have signed a contract under which the two companies will work together to bring OPT's wave energy conversion technology to the Japanese wave energy market. Mitsui is going to work with OPT on developing its technology to suit Japanese sea conditions.

GT Solar to equip first commercial polysilicon facility in India with production technology

GT Solar announced the company has received an order from India to provide production equipment for the first commercial-scale polysilicon production facility in this country, located in Chhattisgarh. GT Solar will deliver a full range of products starting from CVD reactors, chlorosilane recovery, then on to trichlorosilane production and purification.

IBM developing South Korea's renewable energy management system

IBM announced the company is going to collaborate with POSCO ICT on developing the first South Korean renewable energy management system, to be used together with a smart grid. The new management solution will be installed as a showcase on Jeju Island, at the Smart Grid Demonstration Complex.
