Gamesa supplying Huadian New Energy with 200 MW of turbines

Gamesa has signed a supply agreement with Huadian New Energy Development Company (HNED), for a total of 200 MW of G90-2.0 MW wind turbines. The units are to be delivered during 2011 and 2012. HNED will be using the wind turbines at projects in the province of Inner Mongolia, northern China.

Voith Hydro to modernize Saratovskaya HPP in Russia

Voith Hydro has been awarded the contract to modernize the Saratovskaya hydropower plant in Russia. The contract was awarded by RusHydro, one of Russia's leading hydropower developers. This contract represents one of the largest ever for Voith Hydro St. Pölten, with a EUR 140 million value for the first five units alone. The company is to produce and deliver 10.3 m diameter Kaplan turbines for the project. The turbines will be modernized (replaced) in stages.

Taiwan offshore wind farm cooperation agreement signed

An agreement has been signed between the National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) and a non-profit organization, as well as with a company, with a goal to build an offshore wind farm in Taiwan's waters with an annual electrical energy production equivalent to the consumption of about 130,000 average households.

RusHydro successfully dams the Kolyma River

RusHydro announced the company has successully dammed the Kolyma River, in the Magadan region of Russia. This is an important milestone in the development and construction of the 570 MW cascade Ust'-Srednekanskaya hydropower plant. Construction of the dam began in 1991.

Statkraft building 517 MW hydropower project in Turkey

Cetin Main dam site

Statkraft is going to build the Cetin hydropower plant in Turkey, on the Botan River in southeast Turkey. This will be Statkrafts third hydropower project in Turkey, and the company's largest outside its home country of Norway. The project is estimated to represent an investment of about EUR 500 million.

EDF EN starts up 30 MW wind farm in Turkey

EDF Energies Nouvelles has commissioned the 30 MW Seyitali wind farm in Turkey, in the province of Izmir, one of the country's top wind development regions. The wind farm features 15 2 MW Enercon wind turbines.

China Wind Power starts construction of 198 MW wind project in China

China Wind Power has started construction at the 198 MW Phase III wind energy project in the Heilongjiang Province, China. Foundations are being prepared for 132 wind turbines, planned for erection in this phase of the project. The EPC contractor for this project is China Ming Yang Wind Power Group, which is also one of the leading Chinese wind turbine manufacturers.

First Solar bags 100 MW supply agreement with Reliance Power

First Solar has entered into a supply agreement with Reliance Power for 100 MW of solar modules. The agreement calls for two deliveries, the first involving 40 MW by the end of 2011. This batch of solar modules is for the solar power project in Jaisamler, near Mumbai, India.

Nordex receives order for 40 MW from Turkish wind developer

Nordex has received an order for 16 N100/2500 units from Eksim, a Turkish hydropower and wind energy development investor. The wind turbines are to be installed at the 40 MW Amasya wind farm. The units are to be supplied from October 2011.

Japan's renewable energy reform legislation passed – grounds set for expansion of clean energy

Japan Parliament's upper house has passed the renewable energy scheme which has been pushed as a factor for ramping up investments in the country's clean energy sector. Following the March earthquake and the serious consequences on the country's economic sector and environment, Japan needs to turn more attention to clean energy sources, as an alternative to nuclear energy as the primary source of electricity.
