E.ON and Enviva have entered into a wood pellet supply agreement. Enviva is to supply E.ON with 240,000 metric tons of pellets annually, for several years. The contract is to begin in 2013.

BP invests in Cool Planet BioFuels

Cool Planet BioFuels announced that BP Technology Ventures has made an investment in the biofuels startup, as part of the company's C Round of investments. BP has this way joined General Electric, Google Ventures, ConocoPhillips, NRG and North Bridge Venture Partners as investors. GE, NRG and ConocoPhillips have made a joint venture investment company in early 2011, with a plan to invest in 30 venture and growth stage companies, including Cool Planet BioFuels.

Eneco begins construction of 50 MW biomass facility in the Netherlands

Eneco has begun construction of the 49.9 MW biomass power plant in the municipality of Delfzijl, in the Netherlands. The Golden Raand power plant will supply about 120,000 average households with electricity once completed.

MetCap expanding IRCC power plant in Turkey

MetCap Energy Investments (Turkey) and GE have entered into an agreement for the expansion of the Dervish integrated renewables combined cycle (IRCC) power plant in Karaman, Turkey. The project's installed power generating capacity will be doubled using GE's FlexEfficiency 50 technology.

US DoE finalizes USD 132 million loan to Abengoa for bioenergy project

The US Department of Energy has finalized a USD 132 million loan guarantee for Abengoa's bioenergy project, the commercial-scale celluslosic ethanol plant. Abengoa Bioenergy is building the facility in Hugoton, Kansas.

180 MW biomass power plant unveiled in Belgium

GDF Suez, through its subsidiary Electrabel, has unveiled a 180 MW biomass plant in Belgium. The Rodenhuize power plant was a coal fired power plant in its prior life, and was converted to use biomass as fuel through a EUR 125 million investment.

DONG Energy and partners establish bioenergy consortium

DONG Energy, and partners including Vestforsyning, Struer Forsyning and the waste company Nomi, have established a bioenergy consortium which will use the next 15 months to assess whether a number of bioenergy projects are feasible and profitable enough to be developed. The projects being assessed include new power plants, as well as existing plants which can be converted to use biomass as the a fuel source.

Abengoa receiving USD 134m US DoE loan guarantee for cellulosic biomass biorefinery

Abengoa Bioenergy, subsidiary of Abengoa, has been chosen by the US Department of Energy to be offered a conditional commitment for a USD 133.9 million federal loan guarantee for the construction of a biorefinery in the US, the first of its kind, which will use cellulosic biomass to produce renewable liquid fuel.

Bharat Renewable Energy and SG Biofuels deploying Jatropha hybrids in India
