Enel Green Power starts up 20 MW geothermal power plant in Italy

Enel Green Power announced the start up of its 20 MW Radicondoli 2 geothermal power plant, in the province of Siena, Italy. The new power plant extends the existing one, bringing the total of the facility's geothermal power capacity to 60 MW.

Ram Power obtains financing for Phase II of San Jacinto-Tizate project in Nicaragua

Ram Power announced the closing of USD 160 million debt financing for Phase II of the company's San Jacinto-Tizate geothermal energy project in Nicaragua. The financing was structured by International Finance Corporation, part of the World Bank Group.

Mustang Geothermal acquires Andean Geothermic Energy

Mustang Geothermal announced the company has completed the purchase of Andean Geothermic Energy, a Peruvian geothermal energy developer controlling four geothermal exploration applications having 3600 hectares (or 8896 acres) of land area in the provinces of Puno and Arequipa, in Peru.

GEA report optimistic on geothermal industry future

The Geothermal Energy Association (GEA) published a report called Green Jobs through Geothermal Energy, which shows some optimistic outlooks for the geothermal industry. According to the report, announced at the closing of GEA's 2010 Geothermal Energy Expo, held in Sacramento, California, the geothermal industry is creating more jobs than the conventional energy industry, jobs that are permanent, full time, and with better wages.

US Geothermal drills another well at Neal Hot Springs

US Geothermal announced the company has successfully drilled another production well at Neal Hot Springs, in Oregon, USA. The NHS-2 is the fourth large diameter well drilled at the site, and has resulted in a steady 3027 gpm of flow at about 142 ºC, from a depth of 979 meters.

Geothermal Development Company in USD 400 million of pledges for geothermal energy in Kenya

Kenyan geothermal energy company, Geothermal Development Company (GDC), announced it has about USD 400 million in pledges for geothermal energy development in Kenya. This represents about 40% of the amount needed by the company, to fulfill its 10-year plan, which should result in 2000 MW of steam production capacity.

Raser Technologies signs EPC term sheet with Ormat Technologies

Raser Technologies has signed an engineering, procurement and construction term sheet with Ormat Technologies for the Lightning Dock geothermal project in New Mexico.

Under the terms of the term sheet, Ormat is to provide equipment for the project. This includes the installation of two large binary turbo generators, and associated ground equipment such as field pumps, pipelines, cooling towers, electric interconnections and transmission equipment.

Construction of the above ground parts of the power plant is to be completed in 24 months.

GeoDynamics to begin hydraulic fracturing at Jolokia 1 well

GeoDynamics, operator of the Innamicka "Deeps" joint venture between the company and Origin Energy, announced the Jolokia 1 project (Australia) has reached a milestone. The company has successfully completed drilling operations, and is now ready to begin with the hydraulic fracture simulation of the granite beneath the surface in order to create a geothermal reservoir. The purpose of fracturing rock is to create a passage way for the water, to be injected from the surface, allowing it to reach hot and deep hollow spaces in the granite, to pick up geothermal heat, and turn into steam. That stem is then extracted back to the surface and used to power steam turbines to generate electricity.

Geothermal developments coming to Inner Mongolia

Mr. Alexander Gudmundsson, Chairman of Enex China signed the agreement, with the representatives from the A Er Shan Municipality. Present at the signing ceremony were Mr. Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson, President of Iceland and Iceland‘s Ambassador to China, Mrs. Kristín Árnadóttir. Dr. Zhan Qi, President of Sinopec Star and Benedikt Hoskuldsson, Head of Energy Affairs, from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Iceland.

A geothermal development cooperation agreement has been signed between Icelandic-Chinese partners, Enex China (owned by Geysir Energy – 80.5%, and Reykjavik Energy – 19.5%) and Sinopec Star Petroleum, which will assist the province of Inner Mongolia (northest China), to perform a geothermal survey in the A Er Shan region of the province. The survey will be used to assess opportunities for using geothermal energy for heating and power generation.

The signing ceremony was held at Iceland Ambassador's Beijing residence.
