MidAmerican Energy Holdings is growing more roots in the solar energy market in the US, having entered into a partnership with NRG over the Agua Caliente solar project to be built by First Solar in Arizona. MidAmerican Energy is to acquire a 49% stake in the USD 1.8 billion project.

Duke Energy has acquired two large-scale solar parks in Arizona totalling 20 MW of capacity, marking the company's first solar power installations in the US West. The two solar projects are Ajo Solar Project and Bagdad Solar Project, acquired from Recurrent Energy.
