Areva building large CSP project in India

Reliance Power has awarded Areva Solar the contract to build a 250 MW CSP project in India. The project will easily become the largest CSP project in Asia, once completed. It is being built as part of India's solar development program, which calls for 20 GW of solar capacity by 2022.

Siemens supplying solar receivers for project in India

Siemens has been awarded the contract to supply UVAC 2010 solar receivers to India, to be installed at the Megha parabolic trough solar power plant, which is being developed in Andhra Pradesh. This is the second CSP project in India to use Siemens universal vacuum air collectors (UVAC).

Abengoa and JGC bring second CSP plant online

Abengoa and JGC Corporation have brought their second jointly developed and built CSP plant online, the Solacor 2. The power plant is part of the El Carpio Solar Complex, in Cordoba, Spain. Abengoa will continue to hold a 74% stake in both projects at the complex, as well as maintain their operation.

Siemens to deliver receivers for CSP project in India

Siemens has received an order for its UVAC 2010 solar receivers for a CSP plant being developed in Rajasthan, India. The power plant will use parabolic troughs, for which Siemens will supply a total of 17,000 receivers. The facility will have 50 MW of installed power generating capacity.

DuPont and Yingli Green Energy in USD 100 million deal

DuPont and Yingli Green Energy (Yingli Solar) have ented into a USD 100 million strategic agreement for PV materials, which will help speed up the adoption of solar energy in the global energy market. Under the agreement, DuPont will supply Yingli with critical, high-quality materials, as well as collaborate with the company on further technological advancements.

JinkoSolar expands presence in Australia

JinkoSolar, based in China, has added a new subsidiary in Australia. JinkoSolar Australia is based in Queensland, and will serve as a sales and delivery hub for the Australian market, housing about 5 MW of modules for the region.

SolarReserve completes tower at Crescent Dunes solar thermal project

SolarReserve has completed the construction of the 540 foot (~160 m) tall tower at the Crescent Dunes solar thermal tower project, being built near Tonopah, Nevada. The power plant will be using a large array of mirrors to concentrate sunlight onto the receive located at the top of the tower, and produce superheated steam. This will be the first commercial scale solwer power tower facility in the US, featuring fully integrated energy storage capabilities.

Abengoa and JGC bring Solacor 1 CSP plant online

Abengoa and JGC Corporation have announed the start of commercial operation of the Solacor 1 concentrated solar power project, part of the El Carpio Solar Complex, in Cordoba, Spain. Solacor 1 features more than 60 thousand mirrors, generating enough power to supply about 26,000 average homes.

Fluor awarded EPC contract for 125 MW solar project in US

Yingli Solar in supply agreement for 200 MW of PV modules with IBC

Yingli Green Energy (aka Yingli Solar) has entered into a supply agreement with IBC Solar AG. The company is to supply a total of 200 MW of PV modules, of which 180 MW will be multi-crystalline and mono-crystalling Panda PV modules, during 2012, while the remaining 20 MW are left as an option. The solar modules are to be installed at various projects in Germany and other European countries, but also at other solar projects worldwide.
