
The Lake Erie Energy Development Corporation (LEEDCo) and Freshwater Wind have signed an option with the State of Ohio to lease a specified area on the lake for the initial wind energy project in Lake Erie.

Hindustan Zinc, a leading zinc-lead manufacturer, subsidiary of Sterlite Industries (India), part of Vedanta Resources, announced plans to develop 150 MW of wind capacity in the Indian states of Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Karnataka.

EDF Energies Nouvelles announced recently the company has commissioned the 20.7 MW Corbières Méditerranée onshore wind farm. The wind farm features nine Enercon wind turbines, each with 2.3 MW of capacity.

Vestas is ending 2010 with announcements of several wind turbine orders from Germany, Poland, Italy and Norway, totalling in 411 MW of capacity.

Arise Wind Power announced the company has signed a loan agreement with DnB Nor for financing the Fröslida wind farm in the Swedish municipality of Hylte. The wind farm will feature nine wind turbines, totalling in 22.5 MW of installed capacity.

Siemens announced the company has received the largest onshore wind order ever from the US. The customer is MidAmerican Energy, which has ordered 258 SWT 2.3 MW wind turbines, totalling in 593 MW of wind capacity.

Vestas announced two orders, totalling 70 MW, for customers in China and Germany. The orders were placed for the V112 and the V62 and V60 units.
The China order comes from Chongli Construction Investment Huashi Wind Power Company, which already used Vestas' wind turbines in 2008. This time, the company has ordered 49.3 MW, consisting of V52-850 kW and V60-860 kW units, to be installed at the ochekou wind farm, being built in the Hebei province, China.

The US Beaurau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement is seeking proposals from developers interested in building offshore wind capacity off the Massachusetts coast. The invitation opens an area of roughly 3000 square miles for offshore wind energy projects, which could, according to some estimates, result in about 4 GW of installed wind energy capacity.

enXco, an EDF Energies Nouvelles company, and Xcel Energy announced the Nobles Wind Project, a 201 MW wind farm in Nobles County, southwest Minnesota (USA), has entered commercial operation. The wind farm is now supplying the power grid with clean electricity, generated with 134 GE 1.5 MW wind turbines. The facility is capable of producing enough clean power to supply about 66,500 average homes in the area. With Nobles Wind Project, Xcel Energy now has about 1500 MW of power in its distribution portfolio coming from wind energy resources.

AREVA announced the company has entered into a EUR 400 million contract to supply the wind turbines for the Borkum West II offshore wind farm in the North Sea, with Trianel, and association of German urban electricity utilities. The wind farm will be the biggest offshore wind project in the German North Sea, and is located about 45 km off the northern coast of the island of Borkum. It is adjacent to Alpha Ventus, Germany's first offshore wind farm, which also uses AREVA's wind turbines.
