Ocean Power Technologies (OPT) announced the commencement of ocean trials of the company's first new generation utility scale PowerBuoy device, the PB150. The device is rated at 150 kW of power generating capacity, and is the largest produced by OPT to date. The PB150 device has been successfully deployed in mid-April, off the Scottish coast, some 33 nautical miles from Invergordon. Ocean trials are to last about three months, during which the device's structure and mooring system, as well as the generator, are going to be tested in real ocean conditions. All test data is being transmitted in real-time to the company's engineers in the UK and the US.

Sanko (Turkey) has inaugurated the 320 MW Yedigoze hydropower plant in Turkey, on the Seyhan River. The power plant uses Alstom's equipment (generator, hydroturbine, and other equipment). The power plant is capable of generating enough electrical energy anually to supply about 640,000 average homes.
Voith Fuji Hydro JV takes over Ebara's hydroturbine business in Japan

The joint venture between Voith Hydro and Fuji Electric, Voith Fuji Hydro, has taken over the entire hydroturbine business from Ebara Corporation. As of June 1, 2011, Voith Fuji Hydro will officially be the owner of this part of Ebara's business, strengthening the JV's position in the Japanese hydropower market. Ebara on the other hand, is planning to turn its focus more towards pumps and compressors, but it will keep the reversible pump/turbine manufacturing and non-power generation hydraulic turbine manufacturing operations.
Siemens to supply components for two HVDC lines in China

Siemens has been chosen as the supplier of key equipment for two long-distance power transmission lines which are to connect clean energy hydropower facilities in the Yunnan province with consumers in the Guangdong province, both in the southwest of the country. The order comes from China Southern Power Grid Company, from Guangzhou, and is worth about EUR 250 million.
China investing USD 400 million in Honduran hydropower project

Patuca III hydropower project is located about 220 km east of Tegucigalpa in Honduras. Following a three month period of negotiations, China and Honduras signed an agreement under which China is to invest a total of USD 400 million into this project. The construction of the first phase of Patuca III will begin shortly, following an initial USD 50 million investment by the Chinese. The remaining funding will be used for the second phase of the project.

Tata Power / SN Power to build 236 MW Dugar hydropower project in India

A consortium made up of Tata Power (India) and SN Power (Norway) has been given the job to build the 236 MW Dugar hydropower project in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. The Dugar Hydro Electric Project will be developed through a special purpose vehicle (SPV), being formed at the moment, to be owned by the consortium. Pending a detailed exploration and design study, a pre-implementation agreement will be signed between the consortium and the Directorate of Energy in the Government of Himachal Pradesh.
US gov investing in solar manufacturing and hydropower technologies

The US Department of Energy (DoE) announced two investment batches, totalling up to about USD 139 million, for solar photovoltaic manufacturing processes througout the US, as well as advanced hydropower technologies. Solar manufacturing could receive up to USD 112.5 million, while hydropower will receive about 26.6 million.
UK DECC gives green light for DeltaStream tidal energy device testing in Wales waters

The UK Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) has given approval for the testing of a 1.2 MW tidal energy device called DeltaStream, developed by Tidal Energy Limited. The device will be tested for 12 months in Ramsey Sound, Pembrokeshire, generating enough electrical energy to supply about 1000 average homes in the area. Before deployment, the test device will be assembled in West Wales.
Enel Green Power begins construction of 50 MW Chucas HPP in Costa Rica

Enel Green Power (EGP) has begun construction activities at the 50 MW Chucas hydropower plant in Costa Rica. The power plant is located between the provinces of Alajuela and San José. Once completed, the new power plant will produce about 219 GWh of elecrical energy annually, enough to supply about 81,000 average Costa Rican households.
