Cerro de Hula wind project gets USD 209m financing

The Cerro de Hula wind farm project, to be developed in Honduras, has received USD 209 million in financing as a result of an agreement between the Central American Integration Bank (BCIE) and the Export-Import Bank of the United States. The financial loan has been approved for Energía Eólica de Honduras S.A. (EEHSA), which is the developer (a subsidiary of Mesoamérica Energy).

Detroit Edison issues RFP for renewable energy in Michigan

Detroit Edison (DE) has issued a request for proposal (RFP) seeking more renewable energy capacity to add to the company's portfolio. The RFP calls for about 245 MW of RE capacity in Michigan, from solar, wind, biomass, hydro or landfill gas facilities that would need to enter commercial operation by 2014. About 120 MW of the requested amount of capacity would have to be operational by 2012.

GE Energy Financial Services invests in CoolPlanetBiofuels

GE Energy Financial Services has joined North Bridge Venture Partners in B round investment in CoolPlanetBiofuels, with a USD 8 million investment into the start-up company. CoolPlanetBiofuels is developing a technology that allows easy, and mobile conversion of low-grade biomass material into high-grade fuel. The previous financing round for the company last year, was also lead by North Bridge Venture Partners.

Northland Power secures financing for Mont Louis wind farm

Northland Power Income Fund announced the company has completed financing for its Mont Louis wind farm in the Gaspesie region of Quebec, Canada. The wind farm is to have 100 MW of installed capacity, featuring 67 GE 1.5 MW SLE turbines.

First Wind starts construction on Milford Phase 2

First Wind announced the start of construction on the extension project at the Milford wind farm in Utah. Milford Phase 2, or Milford II, will add another 102 MW of capacity to the existing 204 MW already installed in late 2009. The extension will provide clean power for about 22,000 average homes, and will feature 68 GE 1.5 MW wind turbines.

Solar Millenium gets grant for two 250 MW solar projects in US

Solar Millenium announced the company has received permits for two solar power projects, each to have 250 MW of installed capacity, to be developed in the Amargosa Valley, in Nevada, US. The US Secretary of Interior, Ken Salazar, signed the right of way grant for the two projects, guaranteeing Solar Millenium the right to develop the projects. The permitting process is not complete, however, but the received grant was one of the necessary preconditions to proceed with further planning of the project.
