
Vestas has received an order for 56 V90-3.0 MW wind turbines (168 MW in total), from Hydro Tasmania, the largest power generator in Australia. The units are to be installed at the Musselroe wind farm, being developed in Tasmania.

Siemens will be delivering and installing 30 SWT-2.3-101 wind turbines at the Kawailoa Wind Project, being developed by First Wind on the northern shores of Oahu Island, Hawaii (USA). The wind farm is to have 69 MW of installed capacity.

REpower and Suzlon have begun the process of combining their operation in the Australian wind energy market. The two companies are going to continue operating under a single name – REpower Australia. The new company will be offering both REpower and Suzlon wind turbines and equipment, giving its customers a broader choice range for their wind energy projects.

Trina Solar announced a strategic partnership with Origin Energy (Australia). The solar module manufacturer is to supply Origin Energy with about 22 MW of PV modules over the next 12 months, with delivery of the modules beginning in Q3 2011. This agreement will strengthen Trina Solar's position in the Australian residential solar energy segment. Origin Energy and Trina Solar may pursue a deeper strategic partnership in the future.

The Spanish renewable energy company has inaugurated its third wind energy project in Australia. At a ceremony attended by the Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard and Acciona Chairman José Manuel Entrecanales, the 46.5 MW Gunning wind farm was officially opened. It features 31 Acciona Windpower AW-1500 units, representing an investment of about EUR 107 million.

Virgin Australia and Renewable Oil Corporation have formed a partnership to produce a sustainable aviation biofuel. The companies plan to produce biofuel from mallees, a eucalypt tree which can be grown in a sustainable manner in various parts of Australia. The innovative process called fast pyrolysis, developed by Dynamotive, will be used to process mallees and transform them into biofuel. The goal of this partnership, which brings together various companies with special expertise, will aim to commercialize the new biofuel in Western Australia.

Ormat Technologies announced the company has been awarded a build, operate and transfer (BOT) contract by Tikitere Geothermal Power Limited (TGL), for the Tikitere geothermal area near Rotorua, New Zealand. Under the terms of the agreement, Ormat and TGP are to joint develop a geothermal power plant with an estimated 45 MW capacity.

AREVA Solar, CS Energy and Wind Prospect CWP, as a consortium, have been selected as preferred partners by the Australian government for the development of Solar Dawn, a solar thermal power project. This project is part of the first round of the Australian Government's Solar Flagships program. Solar Dawn is a 250 MW hybrid solar/gas power project, proposed for development. It will be financially backed by a total of USD 539 million in commitments from the Australian Commonwealth and the Queensland government.

GE announced an order for 22 GE 2.5-100 wind turbines, which are to be installed at the Mumbida wind farm, being developed in Western Australia. The wind farm is a 50/50 partnership project between Verve Energy, a government owned power utility, and Macquarie Capital.

Mighty River Power announced the company is planning to build an 86 MW geothermal power plant north of Taupo, on the Ngataramki geothermal steam field, considered to be one of the best locations for geothermal development in the world. The power plant is an investment of about NZD 466 million (USD 382 million). Once completed, the new geothermal power plant will contribute to the company's power generation portfolio, bringing geothermal's stake to about 40 percent, or about 460 MW.
